Buried in scraps

I TRY really hard to keep my scraps organized by color so I can locate and use them easier. When I buy sheets, bedding, or curtains, I keep the plastic bags they come in to stash fabric scraps in.

I also run out of those bags, filling them up faster than I can get them, so I also use regular ziplock bags sometimes.

Here is a shot of my sewing table yesterday:

I should be embarrassed to post this, it was quite the mess! I was sewing some (6) pillow covers for my niece, with zippers, so I had two machines set up, one for straight sewing, the other with a zipper foot on it.

Because I'm a hoarder, I have a box of old zippers I bought at an auction several years ago, still in their packages.

So old that most originally cost around 60-80 cents, and all were made in the USA.  All usable, though!

Pillows are done, so I got back to a project I started in January, involving those colorful scraps

I'm sewing these wonky log cabin blocks together finally, making a wall hanging.  Because I have two other projects ready to start but have no room to cut them out right now.

After shuffling these around quite a bit, this is my final layout:

It looks darker in this picture than it actually is because today is snowy and very overcast.  Gotta get this done and ready to quilt and make room for something new!

  5. Oh no! You add bags? Don't the quilt police came knocking on your door if you add? And here I've been working to keep the scraps from exploding out of the set number of bags!
I am with everyone else about NY Beauty blocks. They really add a spark of ingenuity to your design. How fun to include them!

  6. I am visiting from Fret Not Yourself as I just posted my own Improv project post. Bags of scraps - no not me - I have large totes of scraps! They are not separated by color just tossed in the tote. I wonder how many quilts I could make just from my scraps? I don't know if I will ever find out! A hoard of zippers is a good thing! I pick them up at estate sales for next to nothing. I use them for making zippered pouches.

  7. Every time I try to sort out my scraps by color I fall down the rabbit hole. Your quilt is looking fabulous! Love those NY beauty blocks in the mixture.:)

  8. I'm always impressed and envious when people sort their scraps into different bags. I just keep one bag and still have trouble keeping it relatively emptied.
Your mix of log cabins and NY Beauties is such a good idea. Lovely quilt!
    Thanks for linking with AHIQ.

  9. I'm a hoarder too and probably have that many old zippers here too. Glad you found a use for them.

I, too, love the NYB pieces amidst the logs.
